The Patrick County School Board heard an update on the 2025-2026 academic calendar at its Thursday, April 16 meeting.
Because the division missed days due to inclement weather, Schools Superintendent Dr. Jason Wood said the academic calendar was adjusted.
Families were notified prior to the division’s spring break.
“This really helped schools adjust their SOL (Standards of Learning) testing calendar to have more preparation prior to SOL testing beginning,” he said, adding that May 20, which is typically an early release, is now a full school day.
“We just pushed it back one day,” he said, and now Thursday, May 21 is a three-hour early dismissal.
Wood said that Friday, May 22 is a teacher workday and graduation.
“I can’t believe it. It seems like it’s going to be tomorrow,” he added.
In other matters, the board:
*Recognized the Meadows of Dan Elementary School Jr. Beta winner Delilah Laird.
*Recognized the Patrick County High School (PCHS) indoor track athletes.
*Recognized the Patrick County High School (PCHS) Skills USA teams who placed 1st and 2nd in the state competition.
*Approved the adoption of the elementary history books as presented.
*Approved the 2026-2027 elementary school and high school student handbooks.
*Approved the consent calendar.
*Approved the personnel report as amended.
