PC Track and Field Competes in Christiansburg
The Patrick County Track and Field Team competed in the Blue Demon Invitational in Christiansburg, Saturday, May 9.
The Lady Cougars were led by standout thrower Aaliyah Spencer, who placed 9th in the discus with a throw of 97-4.75. Spencer also competed in the shot put.
PC also showed depth in the relay events. The girls 4×400 relay team placed 5th with a time of 4:27.64, while the girls 4×800 relay team also earned a 5th-place finish in 11:39.44. The girls 4×100 relay team added another top-10 performance with an 8th-place finish in 54.35. Analeigh Jones led the way in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:55.12.
For the boys’ team, Hunter Martin had a 4th-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.24. Fisher Martin placed 7th in 2:03.58. Noah Hiatt, Greely Terry, Hunter Martin, and Fisher Martin placed 4th overall with a season-best time of 8:18.41 in the 4×800, qualifying them for the state competition.
In the throwing events, Reggie Brown led the Cougar boys with a discus throw of 106-2 and a shot put mark of 33-11.
Varsity Softball Gets Road Win
The Lady Cougar Varsity Softball team traveled to Radford’s Veterans Field, Tuesday, May 5, defeating Radford 8-3. Hayden Lawless pitched 4 innings, striking out. Jenna Woods pitched the final 3 innings. Taylor Lawless had 3 hits to lead the way for the Lady Cougars.
Hayden Lawless, Woods, and Martina Hubbard each had 2 hits in the win.
JV
PC JV Softball Beats Radford
The Patrick County JV Cougar Softball Team defeated Radford 12-1 on Tuesday, May 5. Delia Jordan put PC on the board in the bottom of the 1st. Riley Hostetter grounded out, scoring 1, putting the Lady Cougars up 2-1. Patrick County had a big 3rd inning, scoring 7 runs.
Bailey Thompson and Carrie Gregory had 2 hits and 2 RBIs each. Gregory started in the circle, striking out 5, walking 3, allowing 2 hits and 1 run over 4 innings. Cassidy Brim pitched one inning in relief striking out 2, walking 0, and giving up 0 hits. Thompson had 2 stolen bases in the win.
