The Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group, LLC will host a benefit for Sally and James Smith on Saturday, June 20, at the Hooker Building in Stuart.

The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature entertainment by Southern Prophets and barbecue plates. The plates cost $20 each and include barbecue, side dishes and dessert.

Alzheimer’s Group President Debbie Tatum said proceeds from the benefit will be used to hire caregivers for the Smiths.

“For the past two years, they have alternated with one illness after another. We want to return their efforts to give to those in need,” Tatum said in a Facebook post.

Noting that Sally Smith helped start the Alzheimer’s Group more than two decades ago, Tatum said she has been a major part of the community.

“Sally is so community-oriented, and, of course, she dragged Jim along with her. I don’t know anyone else who is such an inspiration to people,” Tatum said.
