Students in the Powerline Class, a partnership between Patrick & Henry Community College and Wytheville Community College, recently installed new lighting at Rotary Field as part of a hands-on training project.

The students replaced and added lights on the upper soccer field, installed new lights on the lower soccer field and added lighting to the demolition derby track.

Parks & Recreation Director Luke Williams said the project gave students valuable field experience while improving the county’s recreational facilities.

“I believed this would be an amazing opportunity for the class to gain some experience,” Williams said. “They replaced and added new lights on the upper soccer field, along with new lights on the lower soccer field, and added lights on the demolition derby track. We are very appreciative of the work they have done for us!”

The light poles and fixtures were donated by Patrick County Public Schools. Patrick County Parks & Recreation thanked the school division and its community college partners for supporting the project and providing students with opportunities for hands-on learning.
