A man wanted on outstanding warrants from five Virginia counties was arrested on Friday, July 3, after authorities said he fled from a traffic stop in Patrick County.

According to the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Cameron Adkins attempted to overtake and stop a black Honda Accord shortly after observing it traveling 72 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Authorities said the driver turned onto Connect Road, then Mountain View Loop before stopping on Vipperman Lane. The driver allegedly fled on foot, prompting a search by multiple law enforcement officers.

A short time later, the suspect was located near Rich Creek Drive and Progress Drive. Authorities alleged he again attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Robert Allen Trent Jr., 36, of Cumberland, Va.

According to the sheriff’s office, Trent was wanted on outstanding warrants from Carroll, Pulaski, Appomattox, Buckingham and Wythe counties. The warrants include felony probation violation and failure to appear, with underlying charges that include abduction, malicious wounding, assault on a law enforcement officer, DUI, shoplifting and distribution of marijuana.

Trent is being held without bond at the Patrick County Jail.

The Virginia State Police assisted the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office with the arrest.
