The Patrick County School Board received an update on enrollment for the Healthy Kids after-school program at its July 14 meeting and approved updates to the fiscal year 2027 budget.
The budget update followed the General Assembly’s recent passage of its budget.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Wood said the additional $87,288 requested from the county represents the locality’s required local effort/required local match.
“With this new calculation tool, it is an increase that the county will have to give us,” he said.
The board also learned that enrollment is underway for Healthy Kids, a New York-based company that provides affordable after-school and summer child care programs.
The after-school program will be offered at every elementary school except Patrick Springs Primary and Hardin Reynolds Memorial schools, where students will be served at Patrick Springs.
Wood said Healthy Kids is working to secure subsidies to help families afford the program.
“We currently had six enroll already just after the first week. We are showing, and we fully expect, and so does Healthy Kids, that once school’s back in August that those numbers will grow,” he said.
Families will be able to choose either a 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. pickup time.
