Mayo Mountain Church
I overheard a fellow talking the other day about the condition of our nation. He said, “it’s over, we are done.”
The latest poll I read said that 60 percent of Americans feel that our nation is headed in the wrong direction.
So where does that leave the church? As Christians, do we feel the same way? Do we just set back, as Jonah did at Nineveh and wait for God to pour out His wrath on America?
Or do we act on our faith in Christ, believing in Him, relying on him, and praying to Him!
In Psalm 11:3
The foundation of law and order have collapsed.
What can the righteous do?” (NLT)
At this time in David’s life, Saul was trying to kill him. Saul had his army out looking for David and David’s friends wanted him to flee to the mountains.
But David told them that he was not running away, that his trust was in the “Lord for protection. That even if the foundation of law and order had broken, he would trust God!”
When the foundation of law and order collapses, people lose their faith in God and country, this is not the time for the church to hide or run for the hills. The early church served doing the height of the Roman Empire. They prayed for boldness to preach the Good News of Christ and turned the world up side down.
“The church has to be the foundation for moral clarity for any society .If we are silent, then other voices will prevail! Psalm 11:1
“I trust in The Lord for protection. So why do you say to me, ‘Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!’” (NLT)
I believe that the church has a great opportunity to show the community our trust and faith in the Lord.
The church is the foundation of this nation. This nation was founded on those beliefs. The church is the moral compass for any civilized nation, and this is not the time to be silent, but to be “bold In our faith,” to come together into one mind and one purpose and intercede through prayer for our nation.
Christ established the church for a purpose, to be the salt, to be the light on the hill, to point the way to Christ.
We cannot wait for politicians to fix what is wrong. Our nation is sin sick. We have allowed God to be taken out of our society and we see the result of that all around us.
I heard a news commentator say, “The church is no longer relevant in our society. It has lost its influence on society.”
I believe the answer for America is revival. We need another spiritual awakening, but that will only come through Christians praying for revival.
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from Heaven and forgive their sins, and restore their land.” (2 Chronicle 7:14, NLT)
Can you remember the last time you saw anyone at the altar of the church, weeping and praying for the lost, the hurting, the dying? Until the church humbles itself before God and confesses our sins, with heartfelt repentance of that sin, revival will not come.
Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
“Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of The Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.” Act 3:19-20 (NLT )
We can’t lay the blame for America’s decline on the lost, those that denied God, or the government .We the people have voted these people into office and have not held them accountable .Many times Christians stay at home and don’t vote because we don’t have the perfect candidate running, and complain because of the moral decay in our nation.
If we want change, then we will have to pray for change. God did not asked anyone but His people to pray, His people to seek His face, His people to humble themselves and pray. We are the church; this lays at our feet. If we can’t find the time to pray, who will? We have no one to blame but ourselves if we leave a broken, morally bankrupt nation for our children and grandchildren to grow up in.
I believe that this is a great opportunity for the church. People are looking for the truth, we have the truth. Jesus said, “I am the way , the truth, and the light. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
It’s not a time to run to the hills, but to stand for truth, and for life through Jesus Christ, our lord and savior. It is time to seek His face, pray, fast, humble ourselves, confess our sins, and pray that we the church would share the greatest love known to mankind, “the love of Christ,” to a nation in need of that love!
If the church can come together in mind and purpose, God will heal this nation, one heart at a time.
Amen
