The third annual Patrick County Farm Bureau Ag Expo is scheduled for April 6 at Rotary Field from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited free of charge to enjoy the displays and watch the agricultural youth compete for ribbons denoting the best animal in each class.
The Virginia Tech Extension sponsored Patrick County Marksmen Shooting Team will offer lunch as a team fundraiser.
Following the successful expansion of the animal barn during 2018, growth is expected in the number of animals and exhibitors competing for ribbons and growth in the number of exhibitors that are ag related businesses or ag industry service organizations. The Farm Bureau Board designed the event to reflect the reality of production agriculture. It is a close margin business with scarce disposable income.
The PCFB Ag Expo will have ag related and service organizations located on the ball field and animal exhibitors located in the animal barn. Goals for the event are to showcase and raise awareness of the importance of agriculture to the county and the region, to exhibit some of the inputs of animals, equipment, labor, time and expense required to follow a career in agriculture and to promote the businesses and service organizations that support agriculture.
A sheep herding dog and owner offer a herding demonstration, a blacksmith will be on hand demonstrating self-sufficiency skills, PAWS will host a raffle and one display will feature an animal nutrition tutorial about “The Scoop on Poop (animal poop, that is.)”
