Six of the eight schools in the Piedmont District opened the golf season last Thursday at Oak Hills Golf Club in Eden, N.C.
The Cougars finished in the middle of the pack with a score of 335.
Franklin County led with a team score of 302, followed by Halifax, 319; Bassett, 322; Magna Vista, 339 and Tunstall, 350.
Daniel Smith was low scorer for the Cougars with an 82. Wesley Diggs and Thatcher Blankenship both shot 84, and Evan Hopkins shot an 85.
“We played very well for the first match of the season,” Coach Philip Steagall said.
The Cougars host the next match is Monday, August 15 against Abingdon and Chatham at Olde Mill Golf Course starting at 2 p.m.
