Alvis Spencer “Dickie” Joyce, age 91, of Critz, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on May 21, 1924 and was a son of the late Richard Green Joyce and Lucy Jane Spencer Joyce. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Susan Joyce; three sisters, Maggie Davis, Lena Gregory and Mildred Aliff; and two brothers, Edgar Joyce and Russell Joyce.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, and had been a farmer in Critz for most of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Bowman Joyce of the home; and his son, Dr. Richard Joyce of Scottsville.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial was in the Bowman family cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
