The Stuart Ruritan Club and Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group, LLC have joined forces to present an Alzheimer’s and Mental Health Awareness Walk on Saturday, October 5 at DeHart Park in Stuart.
The Groovy Color Walk and Bike Run registration of only $20 will grant each participant a free BBQ meal and swag bag consisting of a T-shirt and other awareness goodies.
Registration for the bike ride will begin at 11 a.m., and kickstands go up at noon. The walk will begin at 1 p.m., with BBQ and hotdogs served throughout the day.
‘Color’ stations will be set up along the fitness trail to douse the walkers (and runners) with colored chalk. Even though the powdered chalk is non-toxic and harmless, participants will be given goggles in their swag bags to minimize getting anything in their eyes. Participants will also find an awareness bracelet in their swag bags to wear in the event they do not want to be ‘colored up’ while walking.
Walkers/runners are encouraged to wear a white shirt to get a ‘tie-dye’ effect while passing through the color stations.
This will be a fun day for both kids and adults alike, while helping to raise awareness for those patients and families suffering with dementia or other mental health issues.
The Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group, LLC is celebrating 20-years, and the Stuart Ruritan Club is proud to be a part of this joint venture to help each organization with their efforts in the community.
