obit roarkAngela Lawson Roark, 88, joined her husband in heaven Saturday, July 30, 2016, with her loving family by her side.
A Stokes County, N.C., native, she was born to the late Joshua Franklin Lawson and Fannie Sands Lawson in the spring of 1928. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Roark “Jr.;” two sisters, Ruth Hall and Virginia Owens; and two brothers, Howard and Ralph Lawson. Angela is survived by a daughter Wanda O’Neil and her husband Jerry of Charlotte, N.C.; a granddaughter, Amber Wells and husband Josh of Waxhaw, N.C;. a grandson, Todd O’Neil of Kannapolis, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Rayley Wells. As a child, Angela was full of energy and life and took the world by storm. During her teenage years she loved to play basketball and won medals for being the most athletic girl in school. She graduated from Lawsonville high school in 1947 and married in 1948.
A devoted wife for 63 years, she loved her husband and family deeply, there was nothing more important to her. She tried her hand as a beautician but quickly realized that being in the home and dedicating her efforts towards her family was her true calling. Angela took pride in everything she did. Her home was always spotless, her flower gardens were always in bloom, and her family was always a topic of conversation. Angela was a member of Grace Primitive Baptist Church in Stoneville, N.C. She loved to participate in church and fellowship activities, especially ones that involved food. Angela was an excellent cook and certainly knew how to make a killer dessert. Angela was a tender soul and she touched every person that knew her and was loved by all. She will always be in our hearts as a loving mother and the best grandmother. She is already missed and always will be. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Norris Funeral Chapel in Stuart. The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. with Elder Don Singleton officiating. Burial will be at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin on Friday, August 5, 2016, at 11 a.m.. Memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, 8919 Park Rd Ste. 100 Charlotte, NC 28210 or at www. hpccr.org Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Stuart, VA is serving the Roark family.
