Ararat Community Watch was held Thursday, Feburary 23 at the Ararat Ruritan Building in Ararat.
Sheriff Dan Smith opened the meeting with updates and
questions. He then introduced the special guest speaker, State Trooper Andy Roberts, who brought his K-9 partner named “Glock,”
a Belgian Malinois patrol dog. Trooper Roberts spoke about how they got their K-9s and how they are trained with a specific dog (one dog, one person).
Roberts said he had already retired two previous dogs and that Glock was his third. This dog, riding in a regular patrol car or an
unmarked car, is used to help find missing persons, with a SWAT Team to go into a building, or into a forest area in search of suspects. He is also used in domestic calls if needed.
