The Ararat Community Watch meeting was held on November 17 at 7 p.m. at the Ararat Ruritan’s Building in Ararat.
Sheriff Dan Smith opened the meeting with updates on fire danger due to dry conditions and said that no outdoor burning is allowed in the county until further notice.
He also talked about a change in monies being appropriated to sheriff’s office for more deputies.
He then introduce guest speaker Glenn Leonard, a volunteer at the Mountain Valley Hospice in Stuart who spoke about his father’s illness. He said that his father had been ill for a long time and that he and his mother were the only caregivers for awhile.
One day when he was at the doctor’s office with his dad, the doctor referred him and his dad to Mountain Valley Hospice. Hospice workers came to the home, they were attentive, caring and very helpful.
When his dad did pass away Leonard wanted to help with Hospice but they informed him he needed time to grieve. After that he was able to work with Mountain Valley Hospice where he is now a volunteer.
