The Patrick County Sheriff’s Office hosted the Ararat Crime Watch meeting on August 25 at the Ararat Ruritan Building in Ararat.
Sheriff Dan Smith open the meeting and introduced the new deputy, Shawn Keffer, as our host deputy, and chaplain of the Patrick County Honor Guard, Don Kirkman, who gave the invocation.
Smith proceeded with updates, and a question and answer period. He then introduced the guest speaker, Patrick County
Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Allen.
Allen began by talking about the recent tornado in Ararat and why we had no warning. It actually came under the weather radar. There were 12 houses affected by some damage, five houses had minor damage, three had major damage, and two were destroyed. Most of the destruction was along the Ararat Highway.
Allen also mentioned all the businesses and individuals who helped with the cleanup and offered other assistance after the tornado.
