The Stokes County Arts Council will host an exhibit “Art for Vade Mecum” in the Apple Gallery June 21st through July 25th. An opening reception is planned for Friday, June 23, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Stokes County Arts Council, 500 N. Main Street, Danbury, North Carolina.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception.
This event is being organized by Janis Henderson-Hunsucker, a mixed media artist. Hunsucker received her Master in Fine Arts degree in new media from Arizona State University in 2000. She acquired her BFA in sculpture from East Carolina University.
She studied for one year at the Cardiff Institute of Higher Education in Cardiff, Wales, and in 2000, she relocated to New York City to work at Christie’s Auction House in the digital photo studio as an image processor.
After 9/11/2001, Hunsucker was tapped to work at Sertoma 4-H Educational Center and relocated to Stokes County. Presently, Hunsucker is the visual arts teacher at North Stokes High School, having previously taught at Hill Arts Magnet Middle School in Winston-Salem, N.C. Additionally, she serves on the board of the Stokes County Arts Council and is visual arts co-chair of the SCAC Visual Arts Committee.
A series of events will support fundraising efforts for Vade Mecum.
Hunsucker has organized summer visual art classes at the Hanging Rock Visitor’s Center, 1790 Hanging Rock Road, Danbury. Classes are created for students ages 8-13 at a cost of $10 per student per class.
Classes are as follows: Thursday, July 6, 9 am – noon, “Sock Dolls and Friendship Bracelets;” Thursday, July 13, “Low-Tech Animation;” and Thursday, July 20, “Monsters, Robots & Spiders.”
In addition, Hunsucker is organizing a “Music for Vade Mecum” program scheduled for Saturday, July 15th beginning at 7 p.m. at The Arts Place of Stokes, 502 N Main Street, Danbury.
General admission is $5 per person, and all are invited.
