Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) and the PHCC Foundation recently presented nine students with awards during the 23rd Annual Student Art Show Reception.
The show and awards reception recognizes the art created by PHCC art students throughout the year and features more than 35 pieces submitted by 22 student artists from across the region.
Works that received honorable mention were “Still Life” by Alyssa Moxley, “Fairy Dreamland” by Catherine Oliver, “Untitled” by Blanca Duarte-Saucedo, and “Still Life” by Natavis Barton.
Gabreille Tyler’s “Jungle Dream,” Bre Ferguson’s “Trimmed,” and Roslyn Wingett’s “Rhododendron” each received Awards of Excellence.
Seraina Dailey won Best In Show for her piece “Fancy.”
John Christian’s “Orchid” was purchased by the PHCC Foundation to be displayed on campus and was awarded the Purchase Prize.
The awards, which are funded by the PHCC Foundation, were given to the winners by Dr. Greg Hodges PHCC’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Effectiveness, and Campus Life.
Awards ranged in value from $25 to $150. The Purchase Prize, which is an award of $150, has served over the years to build a collection of student artwork that is on display across the PHCC campus.
The Student Art Show will be on display in the Walker Fine Arts/Student Center Gallery at PHCC through Saturday, May 13.
