Deputy uninjured in crash
A Meadows of Dan man was charged with multiple felonies in connection with an alleged June 23 shooting incident, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.
Following a crash, a deputy enroute to the call was not injured, Smith said.
Chet Craft Perdue, 22, of Meadows of Dan, is wanted on charges of attempted first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting into an occupied dwelling, Smith said.
Deputies responded to a shots fired call around 11:42 p.m. in the Cockram’s Mill area of Meadows of Dan, according to Smith who added an individual was allegedly shot at during the incident.
Deputy Matt Rorrer was the first deputy on scene and came into contact with Vincent Cabrera, who lives at a residence near Cockram’s Mill. Cabrera told Rorrer that someone had pulled in front of his home and fired multiple shots at him and then fled from the scene headed east on U.S. 58, according to the release. Bullets and shell casing were recovered from the scene, Smith said.
A patrol car operated by Deputy Oscar Tejeda, who also was responding to the shots fired call during heavy rain, hydroplaned. The vehicle ran off U.S. 58, just east of Howell’s Grocery and overturned, Smith said in the release.
Tejeda was transported to the hospital and later released, Maj. Garry Brown said, and added the deputy not injured in the crash.
Trooper Kevin Mabe of the Virginia State Police investigated the crash, according to the release. The 2013 Dodge Charger was considered a total loss, according to the sheriff.
Investigator Tyler Wilson and Rorrer continued the investigation into the shots fired call and eventually obtained multiple warrants for Perdue.
Perdue allegedly “is actively fleeing authorities and should be considered armed and dangerous,” according to the release.
Brown said Perdue also has ties to Carroll County.
