The JV Baseball Team lost 9-11 on May 9 to Bassett in another close matchup. Camden Nowlin started on the mound for the Cougars, pitching four innings, striking out three, walking three, and allowing nine hits. Carson Merriman came in for three innings, striking out one, walking one, and allowing two hits. Nowlin had a double and a hit for the Cougars. Gilbert Hubbard had two hits. Grayson Howell, Carson Merriman, Nash Thompson, Kase Leftwich, Garrett Leftwich, and Hunter Strole all had a hit for Patrick County. Merriman had two RBIs, while Thompson, Howell, and Strole had one RBI each.
“It was a game of spurts for both teams. We had a great comeback. We were down 10-1, and we scored five in the fifth and three in sixth to get within one,” Coach Donny Rakes said. “We had two in the seventh. Just couldn’t push them across. I’m very proud that we didn’t quit.”
