The Patrick County High School Senior (PCHS) and Jr. BETA clubs will hold a Spring Cleaning Clothing Drive from April 13-17.

Libby Wood, a teacher, said gently used, machine-washed clothes and shoes will be accepted and may be dropped off at the main office of Patrick County High School. Used socks, swimsuits and underwear will not be accepted.

Wood said the clothing drive is intended to help fill PCHS’ clothing and graduation closets.

“If we know students have a particular need through their teacher or guidance counselors or whatnot, then students are able to go to the clothes closet as needed. Sometimes just random items are needed for P.E. (Physical Education) and for different things that come up, so we have those things just available and ready for students,” she said.

Wood said the graduation closet includes items students may need for graduation, such as dress pants, button-down shirts, ties and white dresses.

“Just because that’s an extra expense for a lot of students for the one event, so we try and have those things available if students are needing those,” she said.

Wood said clothing also can be donated to the closet throughout the year.

“I guess we don’t want people completely cleaning out and bringing us several trash bags of clothes and it not be teen-type things. We prefer it to be stuff that we can use here,” she said.

According to Wood, the project was developed by BETA Club sponsor Jonathan Turchek because it would help students while also supporting the club’s mission of service.

“So, this was kind of something the kids could be involved in and promote, and it would help students at the school,” Wood said.

Any items the school is unable to use will be donated to My Friend’s Closet.
