A proposal to extend the local hospital’s Acute Care license is headed for a vote by the full Senate Friday, after sailing through the Education and Health committee early Thursday.
Economic Development Director Debbie Foley said the committee approved Senate Bill (SB) 134.
Foley and other officials that included County Administrator Tom Rose, Assistant County Administrator Geri Hazelwood and supervisors Crystal Harris, of the Smith River District and Jane Scales Fulk, of the Dan River District, traveled to Richmond.
Foley said she addressed legislators before the vote was taken.
State Sen. Bill Stanley, R-Moneta, filed the proposal that includes an emergency clause, which means it will go into effect as soon as Gov. Ralph Northam signs it. Stanley said he anticipates that will be early February.
