The residents of Blue Ridge have enjoyed watching the snow fall during the weekend.
They have been reminiscing about large snowfalls when they were children, and the fun they had sleigh riding on car hoods and telling us about other items they used to ride on.
Although the activities on the weekend got canceled, they enjoyed playing bingo, other games and exercising with pool noodles. We are getting back on our schedule since the holidays and we are looking forward to the spring. I think we are already getting cabin fever.
The bus trip at the beginning of the week was canceled because the residents didn’t want to go out in the cold and the road conditions. Later in the week we went to Mount Airy, N.C., and the residents enjoyed their meal and the warmer temperatures.
This month we will be taking the residents shopping and out to eat. We also have some “around about” bus trips on our schedule.
We are sad here at Blue Ridge. We lost one of our favorite groups who had been coming monthly for over 15 years. The Pleasant View Singers had to stop performing for our residents due to illness with many of the band members.
We are truly going to miss these men and women who have been a light in our residents’ lives for so many years. We hope and pray the entire group gets to feeling better and they are able to return to Blue Ridge to entertain our residents. You guys will be missed.
Many community activities are coming up in the next couple of weeks at Blue Ridge and The Landmark Center. We have been hosting an education series for the community and this month’s will be held on January 19 at Blue Ridge from 6 to 8 p.m. with attorney Robert Haley as a guest speaker. He will be talking on “Asset Management of Medicaid Process.”
Also, the Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet at the Landmark Center at noon on January 24. Hope to see you at there. We will be having “Share Your Heart with Pasta” on February 13 from 4 to 7 p.m.. This is where you can place an order of chicken linguine with Caesar salad and decadent mini cannoli to be picked up at the Landmark Center; cost is $8 per meal. The proceeds from this benefit will go to The Caring Heart Free Clinic. Check this out on our Facebook page or call (276) 694-3050.
If you are interested in performing for our residents or to start volunteering with activities, call (276) 694-7161, extension 1804. We would love to have you!
