Our residents are getting excited about the Patrick County Fair next month. They are working on their entries for the exhibits.
They always look forward to seeing if their craft item placed and what color ribbon they won. We are always proud of our residents and their talent and we want to show their talent to the county.
They are also looking forward to having their meals outside and being able to visit with some of their friends and family at the fair. We will be going on September 20 for the opening night ceremonies.
The next couple of months are very busy for the activity staff members and our residents. We are already working on our “Halloween Kids Night” which will be held on Monday, October 31 at Blue Ridge and the Landmark Center. We invite the area children to come in to our residents’ home for a safe Halloween night of trick or treating.
Our residents will be giving out candy to the little ones. They enjoy seeing all the costumes and being able to give candy out as they once did when they were at their own home. We will be announcing the time for this event on a later date.
November holds a lot of activities for our residents. We will be decorating the nursing center during the Thanksgiving holiday. Our residents love helping us place the ornaments on the trees and they like to tell us where we need an ornament. They also like to help decorate the windows and tables.
When we are decorating the trees, we like to have refreshments like hot chocolate and cookies while we reminisce about the good old days and the type of ornaments they had on their own trees.
We need a church or group who would like to donate items for the residents’ stockings this year. Mountain View Church that has been doing this for years is unable to do it any more.
Each year on Christmas morning, each resident receives a stocking and a gift for Santa to give out. Some of our residents have no loved ones so we count on donations and staff members who will adopt a resident. If you or your group would like to help out, we would greatly appreciate your kindness.
If you are interested in volunteering or entertaining our residents please call Dee Dee Via, (276) 694-7161, extension 1804.
