The residents of Blue Ridge had a wonderful time this year at the Patrick County Fair. They got to have their meal outside with all the great smells of the fair around them.
If you sit and just listen to the sound of the children enjoying the rides, to the smell of food cooking, from the cattlemen steaks, cotton candy, hamburgers and the smell of candy apples, it’s a fun time for everyone who attends.
We would like to thank the Patrick County Athletic Department for their help with our food, which was great. The residents love having a picnic at the fairgrounds.
Our residents won over 17 ribbons in this year’s exhibits for their crafts. Our winners were: Bruce Agee who won a red ribbon; Margaret Bocock won a blue ribbon; Virginia Glenn won two blue ribbons, Illa Hall won a blue ribbon, Billie Halstead won a white ribbon, Tammy Johnson won a blue ribbon, Charles Miner won three blue ribbons, Willie Smith won a red and a blue ribbon, Mabel Stowe won a blue and a white, Sylvia Tate won a red ribbon; and Thelma Wilson won a blue and a red ribbon. We are so proud of our residents and their talents. Congratulations go to all our winners.
We are having many activities for our residents and staff members to enjoy this month. We are celebrating the Italian culture on October 14. They will be learning about Italy and will be having a sensory activity along with the celebration.
We are also planning a week of celebration for our staff and residents to get involved with a Dress-Down Week. Each day we have colors or different kinds of shirts to wear and on Halloween, the staff and residents can dress up in their Halloween costumes. The residents will judge the staff members who have the best costumes during their Halloween Party.
Later that night we are inviting the community children to come and “trick or treat” with our residents for a safe Halloween Kids Night at Blue Ridge and The Landmark Center on October 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.. We look forward to seeing you! We are looking for help with our Christmas stocking stuffers. If you or your group would like to donate stocking stuffers, please call Dee Dee Via at (276) 694-7161, extension 1804. Each year we like to give our residents a gift and stocking to open on Christmas morning.
