February has been a very busy month with our residents enjoying many special event activities.
We celebrated Valentine’s Day with our staff and visitors voting on Valentine’s Day queen and king from each floor. The winners were: Theresa Argraves, William Aldridge, Jerry Gibbs, Della Hawks, Larry Ross and Margaret Epperson. The ladies received a tiara, a dozen red roses and a box of candy. The men received a crown and a box of candy.
We congratulate our winners and thank them for participating in our Valentine’s Day activity. The winners were very surprised by their gifts and being chosen by staff members.
We also had a sweetheart dinner on February 14 for those residents and their spouses to be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day together. We had two couples to attend this event due to the snow. We are very happy that they were able to attend. We had a wonderful meal prepared by our dietary department as well.
After their meal, each of the ladies received a long stem red rose and a box of candy from their husbands and the men received a box of candy. Our couples really enjoyed their time with each other and being able to have a meal with their loved ones. We hope to have more of these types of activities for couples in the future.
Residents are looking forward to spring. We will be soon starting the planting season in the greenhouse. We have many residents who like to get their hands dirty and watching things grow. We all are looking forward to warmer weather and being able to get outside on the patio for fresh air and hearing the birds sing.
We are working on plans for our Easter Egg Hunt, which will be held on March 26. We love having the community in for events such as this for our residents to get out to have fun and visit with the area children.
The activities department is already working on National Nursing Home Week which takes place during the week of May 8-14. This year’s theme is “It’s a small World with a big Heart.” We are planning many special events during this week. Residents and staff members always have so much fun during this week. It takes a lot of planning and thinking out of the box for different types of activities to go along with the theme. But it’s also fun to brain storm with other staff members to see what their ideas and their interpretations’ on the theme.
