Blue Ridge held its annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 24. This year was different; we had to have it inside due to the weather. We had eggs going down the hallways for the children to pick up and some of the residents passed out eggs.
The residents enjoyed seeing all the children in the hallways looking for the eggs. Around 100 children attended this event.
We are thankful that the weather held off till the egg hunt was over.
Many of the children had their picture taken with the Easter Bunny! After the hunt the Easter Bunny went around the center visiting with the residents.
We continue to take our residents out on bus trips. This past week, we took them for barbecue in Mount Airy, N.C. They really enjoyed their meal and the service was great. You really get a lot of food for the money. We had to bring doggie bags back! The residents want to go back there again.
This month, we will be trying out another restaurant in Mount Airy; and will be taking our veterans on this trip. It’s really funny, sometimes we feel like Guy Fieri trying out all these different restaurants, but our residents tell us where they want to go. We just follow their lead.
These are their trips and we try to honor their wishes. Going out to eat with the residents is so much fun, we really get to know one another over the meals we have. Sometimes on the way back from the trips, we will take a different way home so they can see different scenery. They really enjoy that.
With the weather getting warmer, we have been trying to get the residents outside for fresh air and to enjoy the sunshine. This seems like it has been the longest winter, and they are calling for more snow. We need the temperature to be in the 70s to be able to sit outside and enjoy the springtime.
In May we will be celebrating National Nursing Home Week. We have already started planning a fun-filled week for our residents and staff members.
We look forward to this week each year, because we have many special events, foods, visitors and we try to engage the residents in different kinds of activities with the staff members involved too.
