DUANE VIA
Activities Coordinator

Rachel Kelly, Sue Forrest (activities assistance) and Linda Britt.

With summer coming to an end, the residents of Blue Ridge enjoyed having a picnic at DeHart Park. The dietary department prepared subs, chips and drinks to enjoy while sitting outside enjoying the sunshine.

Some of the residents wanted to go walking around DeHart Park and the activity staff took them. They enjoyed looking at the grounds, the creek and the different activity areas the park offers. They were amazed how green and beautiful everything was.

For some of the residents this was the first time they had been to the park.  They really enjoyed having their time outside and they loved exploring the area, watching the minnows in the creek and being able to eat outside.

We are planning another picnic for October 1 before it gets too cold to be outside, and the leaves will be changing color for the residents to enjoy.

The residents went to Ridgeway for ice cream on August 31. They ordered ice cream sundaes, ice cream cones and milkshakes. They had a hard time trying to decide what flavor they were going to order. Many of them just ordered what they knew they liked—chocolate and strawberry.

One of our residents got peanut butter ice cream on top of a brownie, with hot fudge and homemade peanut butter sauce. He said it was delicious.  Just looking at it made your mouth water. We are planning to go back this month for another round of ice cream.

It’s hard to believe that October is right around the corner. We are planning for our annual “Trick or Treat” night with the area children. This is one of our residents’ favorite activities, because they get to see their children dressed in the Halloween costumes.

We are also working on Christmas and the different activities we can offer our residents and families during the holiday season. The holiday season will get here before we know it and it takes a lot of planning to make sure all of our residents have a stocking and a gift for Christmas morning.

If you are your group would like to volunteer you time and talent, please call Dee Dee Via at (276) 694-7161, extension 1804. We would love to put you on our calendar.
