Patrick County Republican Committee Chair Lynne Bogle has withdrawn from the race for the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) Chair position, and thrown her support behind fellow candidate Nicholas Proffitt.

Bogle is the second candidate to withdraw from the election. Cameron Hamilton, of Orange County, dropped out the day after the Jan. 15 televised debate.

Mike Clancy, of Loudoun County, and Proffitt, of Hampton Roads, are the two remaining candidates vying for the position.

While she feels her decision to withdraw disappointed supporters, Bogle believes it was the best thing to do overall.

“Our chances are better in a two-way race than a three-way race, and I wanted to improve the odds. I have spoken with Nicholas Proffitt and offer my full support to assist in any capacity he chooses,” she said.

“Thank you again for allowing me this opportunity. I’ll be forever grateful,” Bogle said in a Facebook post.

Virginia’s State Central Committee will elect the next RVP Chair on January 31.
