The Patrick County School division may be on track to give a bonus to employees, Schools Superintendent Dean Gilbert said.
Gilbert said the bonus could be similar to the one in December, with full-time employees receiving $500 and part-time employees getting $400.
The school board approved the use of COVID-19 relief funds to pay hazard pay to employees.
“I would like to do this again for the good work our staff has done, but the difference is this time it would be paid out of our regular budget,” Gilbert said.
“We are in June, and we are still working through the budget with the county,” he said.
The Patrick County Board of Supervisors is required by law to adopt a budget for the upcoming fiscal year by June 30.
“I read an article in the paper and I talked with Mrs. Hazelwood (County Administrator), and there is some movement in regards to what the supervisors might be willing” to fund, Gilbert said, and added that “$5 million is just not going to meet the required local match capitulation that I have given you all and given the supervisors.”
A vote on the budget is anticipated at the June 14 supervisor meeting.
