Members of Boy Scout Troop 69 and Troop 7 from Patrick County attended the 2016 Fall Patrick Henry District Boy Scout Camporee and Canoe Competition held at Jamison Mill Recreation Area in Henry September 30 through October 2. Sixty-eight Boy Scouts and 38 adult volunteers from 11 troops were in attendance. Boy Scouts competed in various canoe competitions on Philpott Lake, including tandem and solo races, in and out races, no paddle and swamped races. The scouts participated in canoe jousting and the slalom challenge. There was also an awards ceremony at Sunday’s chapel service. The Boy Scouts used patrol-style cooking as they camped, cooked, ate and cleaned during the weekend event. The competition taught scouts teamwork and skills.
