Boyd I. (Bob, Coach) Kidd, 82, of Amelia, passed away on July 13, 2019. He attended William & Mary on a football scholarship. After leaving college with a knee injury, Bob completed his degree at Lynchburg College.
Bob began a coaching and teaching career in Patrick County, where he met the love of his life, Judy Pendleton. They were married for 56 years, and he regularly told anyone who would listen that he was with that “good looking woman!” They had a wonderful life together, moving for better opportunities and then retiring back in Amelia County. Coach Kidd served public schools for more than 30 years, including teaching, coaching, and becoming the athletic director in Lancaster County, as well as coaching, teaching and even driving a bus in Amelia and Nottoway Counties after realizing he retired too early.
Bob enjoyed all sports, but his favorite was always baseball, specifically watching the San Francisco Giants win the World Series. He was a huge fan of all UVA sports teams, and he was loyal to the Washington Redskins throughout many frustrating seasons.
Above all, Bob loved his family. He leaves behind a loyal wife, Judy, who was an amazing caregiver to her husband and all his family. They raised three children, Stephanie Hudson (Ronald), Beth Abbott (Todd), and Terry Kidd. He was so proud of his children, and one of his favorite accomplishments was becoming Papa to three grandchildren, Kimberly Stevens (Michael), Ryan Hudson (Hailey), and Jeremy Abbott. He lovingly welcomed a great-granddaughter, Maya Stevens, this year.
Bob is also survived by his mother, Ruth Martin Kidd; sister, Brenda Staylor, and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Robert Kidd.
