Veterans are invited to “Enjoy the Simple Life,” while throwing their line in for Rainbow Trout during the third annual Veterans Fishing Day.
Hosted by Blue Ridge Heritage (BRH), the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 13 at the BRH Education Center, 920 Rock Castle Gorge Road, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Mile Marker 170.5.
Veterans are encouraged to spend the day enjoying friends and sharing a lunch served by the Patrick County High School Fishing Team at the event that is dedicated to them and their service to our country.
The event is made possible due to the generosity of several sponsors and/or volunteers, including the Board of BRH, Martin Clark, Lynn Regan, John Hopkins Sr., Jones & DeShon Orthodontics, the Seller family, Smith River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, the Patrick County Sheriff’s Department, the Patrick County High School Fishing Team and the Patrick County Tourism Advisory Council.
BRH works to promote education and economic development through place-based programs related to the natural and cultural heritage of the Blue Ridge in Southwestern Virginia’s Bi-County area of Floyd and Patrick Counties. BRH welcomes individuals, families and businesses as members and/or volunteers to join the effort to bring quality programs to the Floyd/Patrick County area that serve to promote our rich natural and cultural heritage.
Recent and upcoming programs include a hawk watch, a night sky program, a bird watching hike, a trail building seminar and a local history presentation related to the American Chestnut Tree, among others. These programs are free and open to the public. For more information, visit brheritage.org.
