Blue Ridge Heritage, Inc. (BRHI) recently hosted its second Veterans Fishing Day at the BRHI Education Center.
About 40 veterans and family members enjoyed a day of fishing for rainbow trout from the BRHI pond. One lucky fisherman reeled in a 22.5-inch fish after a brisk fight. Everyone caught trout and was welcome to take them home to enjoy.
Support for the event was provided by several sponsors and volunteers—the board of BRHI, Martin Clark, Lynn Regan, John Hopkins, Jones & DeShon Orthodontics, the Seller family, Smith River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office. The BRHI Board of Directors heartily thanks these great sponsors and volunteers
BRHI works to promote education and economic development through place-based programs related to the natural and cultural heritage of the Blue Ridge in Southwestern Virginia’s bi-county area of Floyd and Patrick Counties.
Recent and upcoming programs include a hawk watch, a night sky program, a bird watching hike, a trail building seminar and a local history presentation related to the American chestnut tree. These programs are free and open to the public. Details can be viewed on the BRHI web site at http://brheritage.org/WhoWeAre.html.
BRHI welcomes individuals, families and businesses as members and/or volunteers to join the effort to bring quality programs to the Floyd/Patrick County area that serve to promote the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
