Marcus Brinks was officially sworn in as the new General Court District judge for the 21st judicial circuit on Friday, June 21, at the Patrick County Courthouse.
Judge Frank Greenwalt, who served as general district court judge for many years, administered the oath of office to Brinks.
Brinks, who begins his time on the bench on July 1, is succeeding Judge Edwin A. Gendron, who retired Jan. 31.
A courtroom full of judges, lawyers, court officials, Brinks’ family and friends observed the ceremony and wished Brinks well in his new job. Judges present (in addition to Greenwalt and Gendron), included Judge Robert Bushnell, Judge Susan Deatherage, Judge Martin Clark and Judge David Williams.
Brinks served as assistant commonwealth’s attorney to Patrick Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Vipperman for the past eight years. He worked full-time for the office since July 2000, and part-time from January 1996 to June 2000. Prior to that time, he was in private law practice in Stuart.
He was also in service in the United States Army as Judge Advocate General for 28 years, retiring from reserve duty in 2011 with the rank of colonel.
