There was a good turnout for the Bob Lockett discussion on using the father’s DNA for genealogy research. Those wishing to learn more about DNA testing and how it can be used in genealogy research will be interested in attending the next meeting of the Carroll County Genealogy Club.
Lockett will present the program on using the mother’s DNA for research on October 19 at 6 p.m. in the Carroll County Public Library in Hillsville. The meeting will start promptly at 6 p.m. with a discussion period after the presentation.
Jerry Cooper, a long-time member of the Carroll County Genealogy Club, is moving away. His expertise and knowledge of local families and events will be greatly missed by those who come to the club library to do family research. A picture of the plaque presented to Cooper for his many years of service to the club and community can be viewed on the genealogy club Facebook page.
Please note this change in the hours that the club library will be open. Currently the club research library is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On January 1, 2017, the research library will be open only on Wednesday for the months of January, February and March.
Anyone wishing to help staff the library and help those doing research or wish to do research at a time the library is not scheduled to be open is asked to contact Katie at (276) 766-3431. Also note that the club follows the Carroll County School closure schedule If bad weather closes the schools then the library will be closed as well as any meetings scheduled for that night will be canceled.
Stay in touch with club activities using the club Facebook page, as well as the Friends of Carroll County Genealogy Club website.
Copies of the Edwards book are still available at the club library or by contacting the club at the address below.
