A change at Walmart regarding the company’s open carry weapons policy prompted some confusion between open carry and those legally permitted to carry concealed weapons.
A Walmart spokesperson said the company has no way of verifying whether an individual has a license to carry a concealed weapon, so it is possible to bring a concealed weapon into their stores in states where concealed carry is legally permitted.
Walmart is asking individuals to refrain from open carrying weapons in the company’s stores. In a recent press release the company’s CEO, David McMillon, said the change was prompted by the mass shootings across the U.S., including a recent mass shooting at a store in El Paso, Texas.
