Mrs. Claudine Hall Wood, 98, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Laurel Meadows Heritage Hall Nursing Home. She was born in Patrick County on May 6, 1920 to the late Joseph Franklin Hall and Nora L. Cruise Hall. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Benton U. Wood; a son, Buford Calvin Wood; three sisters, Irene Hall (twin sister), Edna Hylton, and Myrtle Belcher; a brother, Buron Hall; her step-mother, Tica West Hall; and a son-in-law, Howard Belcher. Mrs. Wood was a faithful member of Mountain View United Methodist Church for over 80 years. Granny Wood will be remembered as a woman of prayer and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Belcher, and Margaret Boyd and husband, Leo; all of Meadows of Dan; three sons, Gilbert Wood and wife, Barbara of Stuart, Richard Wood and wife, Karen of Meadows of Dan, and Harry Wood and wife, Kay of Kingsport, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Rita Wood of Meadows of Dan; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wood were held on Sunday, March 17 at Mountain View United Methodist Church with pastors Marcus Wood and Terry Martin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
