The Reynolds Homestead, in partnership with Wreak Havoc Productions and New Vemco Music Company, is hosting a Young People’s Artist Workshop and Art Show for students interested in learning more about being a comic book artist.
The event will be held at the Reynolds Homestead on Saturday, August 20 from 4 until 8:30 p.m. and is free to young aspiring artists between the ages of 8 and 18.
The day’s events will begin with three professional comic book artists who will hold a panel discussion about being a professional comic book artist. Each will then help workshop participants work on their own art—providing feedback and pointers and encouragement.
All three artists attending the workshop have spent years as professionals. Chad Hunt, a resident of Lewisville, N.C., is a self-taught artist who over the past 20-plus years has worked for most major comic book companies like Marvel, DC Comics, Dark Horse and Image. At Marvel Comics, he worked on some of their best-selling titles at the time: “X-Men,” “Wolverine” and “X-Force.” He has also worked for various independent companies like AC Comics, where he got his professional start.
Also a North Carolina native, Whitney Collazo is a 27-year-old graphic artist and makeup artist with seven years of production experience under her belt. Some of Whitney’s film work includes, “Coffin Baby,” “Dark Awakening” and “Black Dragon.” Like the many people behind this project, Collazo is ecstatic about encouraging the minds and hearts of young budding artists.
A third artist, Jason Bowers, will also be participating in the event.
Each student participant will then be treated to dinner provided by the Reynolds Homestead and have a chance to talk further with the artists on hand. After dinner, parents and friends are invited to see the exhibition of student art on display.
Any student who would like to have his or her art on display during the event is invited to bring it by the Reynolds Homestead any time before the end of the day on August 19.
There is no charge to attend the event, but registration is limited to the first 15 students who register. “We want to ensure that each participant gets the chance to have plenty of time with the professional artists in attendance,” said senior program manager Lisa Martin.
