The Gathering Place @ Critz will hold a church fundraiser at the Stuart Rotary Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. Prizes, food, and drinks will be available.
Saturday, Aug. 27
The Ararat Ruritan Club will hold a program about the Dinky Railroad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local author Tom Perry will give a presentation about the history of the railroad. Anyone with information about the railroad or artifacts to bring in is invited to speak and share during the second hour of the presentation. Following the talk, Chip Bondurant will lead a tour across the Porter Bondurant Farm, where the railroad crossed. Donations for the Perry Family Scholarship will also be accepted.
The LifeSpring Center will feature Dr. John Kelly as he presents “Lifestyle, Genetics, Gene Switches, and Longevity.” A light supper will be served at 5 p.m. and Kelly will continue to speak at 6 p.m. To reserve a space, call Betty Dean at (276) 694-4775.
A Stuart Elementary Wildcats backpack program cruise in will take place at Rotary Field from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will distribute weekend food for students from pre-k to 7th grade and will include two breakfast items, two lunch items, two dinner items, individually wrapped snacks, and other items like juice boxes. A Back-to-School Kids’ Day will be held at the Ross Harbour United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be free new and used children’s clothes, school supplies, and a free hot dog lunch for everyone who attends.

Piedmont Community Services will hold a Patrick County Resource Fair at the Stuart Farmers’ Market from 12-5 p.m. The fair is to help the community learn about the services Piedmont offers including access, mental health services, substance abuse services, school-based services, and others. There will also be games, food trucks, PCS resource stations, door prizes, music, and more.

Stuart United Methodist Church will offer The Circle of Hands from 1:30-3:30 p.m. the first and third Sunday of every month. If it is a holiday weekend, the meeting will be cancelled. Men and women are invited to attend the new group, which offers an opportunity to fellowship, and bring a project to work on or lean a new craft.
The Ararat Ruritan Club hosts virtual raffles on its Facebook page on the first of each month. Various items are raffled off at $10 or $20 per limited chance. There are 30-35 chances on each raffle.
