The Meadows of Dan Community Association will hold its 11th annual Christmas Parade at 3 p.m. on November 27.
Richard Conner was selected Grand Marshal for the event. Conner has been helping this community for more than 50 years, alongside his wife, Ann.
A Ruritan member, Conner has helped with community events, like Pancake Days, was Assistant Leader
for Boy Scout Troop 66 in Meadows of Dan and is an active member of Vesta Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he also helps with the big 4th of July celebration.
He is a charter member of the Meadows of Dan Fire Department, served on the Patrick County Recreation Commission, was a PARC board member, and a Tri Area board member.
He attends Mayberry Presbyterian Church, but many people will remember him as their kind mailman, because he delivered mail for many years.
Conner has many memories as postal worker, but he said the one that stands out the most is when an older lady asked him to help flip her mattress.
The association invites all to attend the parade.
The organization has opted not to do the cookies and cider this year again, due to safety
concerns.
The parade coincides with Small Business Saturday and all the businesses will be open, with something bound to suit everyone. Additionally, hot coffee or latte will be available from the new coffee shop Primitive Coffee & Antiques, which will extend its hours for the day.
The association also is excited to announce that, for the first time ever (weather permitting), the parade will include a marching band, thanks to the Floyd County High School Band and director, Jay Durner.
“We are actively looking for parade entries,” said Trinity Goad, president of the association. “All are welcome – old cars, new cars, horses, ATVs, churches” and the like.
