It was a big win for the Patrick County High School boys’ varsity basketball team last Thursday night when the Cougars defeated the Floyd County Buffaloes 55-42 at home. Just the week before, the Cougars were defeated by the Buffaloes 46-36.
The Cougars took an early first-quarter lead 11-8 and maintained the lead for the rest of the game. The score at the half was 23-18 and the third quarter score was 37-30.
Hunter Lawless led Cougar scorers with 15 points. Brandon Hubbard, Austin Walter and Frankie LaComa each scored eight points.
Last Tuesday night, the Cougars traveled to Magna Vista and lost 64-48.
The Cougars were only down by two points at the end of the first period, 16-14, but a powerful Warrior defense all but shut down the PC offense, holding them to four points to their own 12 points.
A strong offensive third quarter for Magna Vista put them up 49-34.
DeAndre Reynolds was leading scorer for the Cougars with 15 points—including four three-pointers. Hunter Lawless added 14 for the Cougars—also with four three-pointers. Brandon Hubbard and Frankie LaComa each added eight points.
