Led by Jake Martin and Wesley Diggs, the Patrick County High School Cougar golf team carded a 319 to place second in a district match last week at Oak Hills Golf Club.
Hosted by Magna Vista, the Cougars were seven strokes behind Halifax; the Comets shot a 312 to take the win.
Magna Vista shot a 343, and the George Washington of Danville Eagles team did not send a complete foursome; their score did not count in match competition.
Patrick County’s Jarrod Burnette shot an 82 and Evan Hopkins contributed an 83 for the Cougar effort.
“This was our best team score to this point in the season,” said Coach Philip Steagall. “Jake and Wesley really played a great round today,” he added.
Monday, the Cougars played at Hunting Hills Golf Course in Roanoke in a match hosted by Cave Spring. Tuesday, they played at Forest Park Country Club in a match sponsored by Martinsville.
