Only two days elapsed before the Patrick County High School Cougar golf team competed in its first district match last Wednesday at Tuscarora Golf Club. The match was hosted by Tunstall.
Franklin County won the top honors with a score of 298. Halifax recorded 334 while the Cougars came in third with a score of 342. Host team Tunstall was one point down with a 343 to take fourth.
Leading scorer for the Cougars was Jarrod Burnette with an 80. Wesley Diggs shot an 85 while Daniel Smith shot an 88. Thatcher Blankenship carded an 89.
Willoughby Gasparini from Halifax was medalist with a 71.
“We played well for the first match of the season,” Coach Philip Steagall said. “I look for some good things from this group in the upcoming weeks,” he added.
Tuesday (yesterday), the Cougars hosted Floyd at Olde Mill Golf Course.
