Patrick County High School golfers were able to get in two matches last week at Olde Mill Golf Course, even if one had to be halted due to inclement weather.
Last Monday’s match against Chatham had to be halted due to a rain delay and darkness. No scores were actually recorded since several team members were on different holes and uneven scores were not counted.
According to Coach Philip Steagall, the men played well as a team. “They just need to work on the short game to get ready for Conference 32 play coming up,” he said.
Steagall reported the general order of finish for Cougar golfers with Daniel Smith leading, followed by Jake Martin, Jarrod Burnette, and Thatcher Blankenship.
Thursday, the Cougars hosted Franklin County, Bassett and Magna Vista.
Bassett won the match with a score of 313; followed by Franklin County, 337; PCHS, 338; and Magna Vista, 361.
Jarrod Burnette led the Cougars, shooting an 80. Jake Martin followed with an 82, Daniel Smith shot an 87 and Wesley Diggs and Thatcher Blankenship tied at 89.
“Jarrod and Jake both played two solid rounds of golf for us today,” Steagall said.
Thursday, the Cougars travel to Oak Hills in Eden, NC, for a district match hosted by Magna Vista.
