The Patrick County High School varsity baseball team hosted Floyd County High School on Wednesday, March 28. After losing a tough one to Halifax County the day before, Patrick County was able to regroup and cruised to a convincing 10-0 victory, improving their record to 4-3.
Opening the game with an error, the Cougars settled down and controlled the rest of the game. The offense was clicking, jumping out in the bottom of the first inning with a 3-0 lead that was not relinquished.
The Cougars continued to increase their lead to 8-0 in the second inning. The score stayed the same throughout the third, but the Cougars extended their lead to 10-0 after the Buffaloes gave up two more runs in the fourth.
Dylan Phillips pitched well and won win the game, only giving up two hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Josh Cockram doubled and also scored three runs. Seth Scott and Andrew Collins each scored two runs. Colby Vernon hit a huge double in the second inning as well as scoring a run.
“…I’m excited about how we responded today through the adversity, coming back after getting beat yesterday, … able to refocus and get a good win today,” Coach Erix Renegar said.
“Our next game’s a big one. We are going to North Stokes, and our guys for whatever reason, and North Stokes play each other close every time. So they know what they’re expecting and they have that to look forward to next Friday and I think they’re excited about it, so I don’t think I have to really say a whole lot to these guys.”
