The Patrick County High School Cougar baseball weathered a cold, windy afternoon Saturday when Salem High School visited PCHS for a scrimmage. A large crowd packed the parking spaces and shivered along with the players.
According to head coach Eric Renegar, the scrimmage went well. “Obviously, at first glance of the box score, nothing spectacular will jump out at you. However, I feel good about where our guys are right now,” he said.
Renegar complimented the pitchers who did a great job locating and filling up the zone. “This is something a little bit new to us this early in the season,” Renegar said.
The offense limited strikeouts and made Salem make defensive plays.
“I do believe we left a lot of opportunities out there in key spots with key guys at the plate,” Renegar said. “Moving forward this week, we are working very hard on making the most of our scoring opportunities and giving nothing up scoring opportunities,” said Renegar.
Renegar is looking forward to the next game against Carroll County Thursday. “It feel like we are in a very good spot to shake some things our way, as long as we continue to work towards our goal and get better each week,” he said.
Next game is Thursday at home against Carroll County. Junior varsity starts at 5 p.m. and varsity starts at 7 p.m.
