The Patrick County High School Cougar golf team traveled to Forest Park Country Club in Martinsville last Tuesday and tied for second in the second district match of the season.

Leading the Cougars were Jarrod Burnett, who shot a 40. Daniel Smith carded a 41, and Thatcher Blankenship and Wesley Diggs tied, shooting 42.

Franklin County won the match with a score of 148. John Hatcher Ferguson of Franklin County was medalist with a 34.

The Cougars tied with Halifax County, shooting 165.

Tunstall was fourth with a 170, followed by Magna Vista (180) and Bassett (197). George Washington of Danville and Martinsville did not have enough players to compete as teams.

“Our guys played very well and managed to cut several strokes from last week’s match,” said Coach Philip Steagall. “We need to work on our approach shots and continue improving each week,” he added.

Monday, the Cougars played Halifax County; Thursday, the Cougars play Carroll County at Olde Mill Golf Course. Next Tuesday, they travel to Tuscarora Country Club to play George Washington of Danville.
