The JV Cougar Baseball Team defeated Grayson County at home on March 18 with a score of 16-2. Carson Merriman went three innings on the mound for the Cougars striking out five batters, walking one, and giving up five hits. Gilbert Hubbard relieved Merriman, striking out two, walking none, and giving up one hit. Gilbert Hubbard and Grayson Howell led the Cougars with three hits and an RBI a piece with Hubbard also adding a double. Camden Nowlin and Hunter Strole added doubles and an RBI each while Carson Merriman added a double and two RBIs. Nash Thompson had two hits and an RBI, and Garrett Leftwich had one hit and one sacrifice bunt that resulted in two RBIs.
“Good win for our kids,” Coach Rakes said. They put the bat on the ball well. They threw strikes, fielded well, and that’s a good combination.
We are starting to learn the game. I’m encouraged.” The JV Cougars are now 2-1 for the season.
