Dana “Polly” Gilley Roop, 89, of Critz, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at her home. She was born on February 29, 1932 in Patrick County, VA to the late Emmett Hughes Gilley and Carrie Martin Gilley. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Johnson Roop, one son, Lynn Barry Roop, one sister, Georgia Hazel Roop, four brothers, Randolph Gilley, Maynard Gilley, Harbour Gilley “Pete”, and Johnnie Blaine Gilley.
She was a faithful Christian who loved her church, family, and friends. She enjoyed sitting at the window and watching the birds. She was a very good cook and lived her life by her favorite scripture Psalm 91.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Roop Handy (Hassel) of Critz, VA; one son, Derrick Roop (Joan) of Critz, VA, three grandchildren, Kenneth Roop, Travis Roop, Dana Roop Harris, seven great-grandchildren, Faith Roop Ruscelloni, Kristen and Makayleigh Harris, Cassidy, Charlotte and Sophia Roop and Joshuwa Roop.
The funeral will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Norris Funeral Services with Reverened Jimmy Wood and Bishop Tim Knuckles officiating. Burial will be at Critz Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Norris Chapel in Stuart, VA.
