The Colonel Abram Penn Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met November 8, at the Hollow History Center in Ararat, Virginia. Regent Janice Stanley presided at the meeting.
A tour of the grounds and exhibits at the Hollow History Center was conducted by Raleigh and Shelby Puckett, owners and curators. Four era furnished cabins, a converted tobacco barn, an apple drying barn and a section of reclaimed railroad tracks are displayed at this outdoor museum. Mr. and Mrs. Puckett led a discussion about household and farming items used in the late 1800s and early 1900s in this area of Patrick County.
The chapter business meeting was held following the tour. Officer and committee reports were delivered. Members were reminded that Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day recalls the eleventh hour of the eleventh month of 1918 when World War I ended. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday in 1938.
